Safe participation

Norway Cup shall be a safe tournament for all participants, volunteers, and others who visit the tournament. Our ambition is that everyone who sends children to participate in the Norway Cup should be confident that safe participation is the most important thing for us.

Norway Cup and safety

Over the years, we have built up a robust and experienced emergency response organization to handle this task. Detailed emergency response plans have been prepared that come into effect if an unwanted event should occur and there is a need for it.

Close cooperation with police and fire departments

Throughout the years, we have had a very good and close collaboration with the Oslo Police District, which is one of the most important success factors for conducting a safe and secure tournament. The police use large resources to ensure the safety of the participants. The police are establishing their own police station centrally on Ekebergsletta. They also have their own patrols that are present at schools and other places where the participants stay overnight and travel.

In addition to the police, we also have a very good collaboration with the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service (OBRE). Fire courses and exercises are arranged every year so that key personnel, OBRE and Norway Cup are as well prepared as possible if a fire or fire incident should occur. In addition to close monitoring of all aspects of fire safety throughout the tournament, we have a particular focus on fire prevention measures and fire protection at the schools where participants live during the tournament. Fire protection plans and routines are reviewed and updated every year by the Norway Cup's own fire manager.

Youth contacts and Night Ravens

Norway Cup has also had an excellent collaboration with the Municipality of Oslo and their youth contacts from the various districts for many years. The same applies to the Night Ravens, whose visible presence further strengthens our security work.

Contact with coaches, team managers and parents

Another very important prerequisite for being able to conduct a safe and secure tournament is of course that all coaches, team managers and parents who follow their teams to Norway Cup also think about safety. Good contact with them and available information and routines about safety for all participants is a priority area for us.

Training through "Safe Participation"

To ensure that participants in Norway Cup are not exposed to unpleasant experiences such as harassment, violence, sexual assault and similar, Norway Cup works every year to develop “Safe Participation”, together with the Norwegian Sports Federation and Save the Children. The purpose is both to provide training to managers and coaches in what constitutes responsible behavior, and to make participants aware of their safety, as well as to ensure that there is a system for reporting.

Norway Cup takes children's safety and security seriously.

Ethical guidelines for participants, managers, volunteers and the public at the Norway Cup

Violation of these guidelines will result in sanctions from Norway Cup.
Norway Cup has procedures for handling violations of guidelines. Abuse or other violations of the law are automatically reported to the police.

By following the Code of Conduct, everyone contributes to a safe arena and a positive experience for everyone who participates.

For players :

  • I will treat everyone I meet at the Norway Cup with respect and dignity.
  •  I will not participate in any form of bullying or harassment.
  •  I will respect other people's boundaries, and not touch or speak to anyone in a way that may make them uncomfortable or hurtful.
  •  I will not hit or use any forms of violence.
  • I will not use drugs or doping.
  • I will follow the tournament regulations.
  •  I will be a good representative of my club.

For coaches, team leaders and other adult volunteers :

  • All children are of equal value. All children have the right to participate in sports in a safe environment.
  • As a coach/team leader/volunteer, I will treat all children fairly and avoid all forms of discrimination and harassment.
  • I will never touch a child in a way that could be perceived as sexually offensive.
  • For the safety of the children, there should generally be several volunteers present when spending time with players.
  • Digital communication should not take place with players individually. This is considered being alone with players.
  • As a coach, team leader or volunteer, I should never be under the influence of alcohol or drugs when I am with the children.
  • As a coach, I must be aware of my role, both towards children and parents.
  • It is important not to create unrealistic expectations of myself as a coach, or to contribute to unfair treatment of children/families. I will avoid personal gifts or other special attention to individual children/families.
  • I will be honest and clear in my communication with my children – about purpose and responsibility, and about opportunity and limitations. I will never make promises I cannot keep.
  • I will show respect for children's integrity and avoid revealing situations when taking photographs and other documentation of the child's situation.
  • I will treat all information provided by children and young people in confidence as confidential. Information will not be passed on without the children being informed of this.
  • I will report if I experience violations of these guidelines.
