Norway Cup and East Africa Cup are rooting for the girls!

Norway Cup is working with the UN on their Sustainable Development Goals and one of the goals that is important to us is goal 5: Gender Equality.

We’re therefore very proud to be working with East Africa Cup – a football tournament held in Moshi in Tanzania in June each year. The tournament has a strong focus on sport and development through a comprehensive social value program and their goal is to have 50% of all participating teams be girls’ teams.

For Kristin Bjorå (pictured) from the organising committee for East Africa Cup goal 5 is also highly important.

Norway Cup cooperates with East Africa Cup by contributing resources, expertise and Fair Play trophies to the tournament. Like last year Norway Cup is sending two female referees from our club Bækkelagets Sportsklub to the tournament to hold referee courses and guide local referees from East Africa. The tournament a clear goal of increasing the proportion of female referees, and it’s therefore important to use women as course holders as they may inspire others to become referees.

Elisabeth Thoresen and Emilie Rodahl Dokset are both important role models for women in sport – both in Norway and in East Africa. And Norway Cup is very proud that they are contributing to a more equality in sport.

Happy International Women’s day!
