In difficult conditions – we were treated to one of the most dramatic and unconventional finals in Norway Cup history.

Torrential rain throughout the match made playing conditions very difficult – and at one point English Referee Dean Carney from Luton suspended play due to the threat of thunderstorms in the local area.  Indeed the English officiating crew of Carney, Burns and Howes did admrably to give the watching spectators a decent game of football to watch – aided by the attitude of both teams.

The first major chance of the half came after only 10 seconds.  A ball in from the left wing caused havoc in the Blindheim defence.  Goalkeeper Marianne Heggstad turning the ball onto the crossbar – giving Emma Rimereit the opportunity to scramble the ball away at the second time of asking.

Langfjorden domiated the game for long periods throughout – although both teams coped admirably with the tough conditions – with the ball not moving freely through some parts of a very wet pitch.

Such conditions had an effect 24 minutes into the first half. A low ball across from Blindheim’s Sara Lande Klokk was turned towards goal by Kristine Almås Ødegård.  On any other day the ball would have hit the back of the net.  However, the goalbound shot hit a patch of water short of the goal line – giving goalkeeper June Herje ample opportunity to recover and get to the loose ball before it crossed the line to send the teams into the half time break tied at 0-0.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Strindheim well on top of matters.

The only goal of the game came 7 minutes from time.  A freekick given correctly by Referee Carney for a heavy challenge on a Langfjorden midfielder on the edge of the area.

Guro Dahle stepped up to curl a high shot inside the left hand post to beat Heggstad in the Blindheim goal to give Langfjorden the trophy.
